Seeing productivity?
One of the problems with working online is that it’s possible to do quite a bit of work and still not feel as if I’ve accomplished a darned thing.
At least when I was tapping out short stories on my mom’s IBM Selectric I’d have stacks of typed pages and a waste basket full of teabags and crumpled paper to bear witness to the fact that I was indeed working. Not to mention the after math; envelopes full of submissions and a few different writing directories with names and addresses highlighted.
Now it’s all on my hard drive or on servers, little tiny bits of information here and there that take up no space on my desk, and never physically end up in my waste basket. I miss having the visual reminders at the end of the day that showed that I was indeed being productive. My daily writing productivity goals get met, but I don’t have the visual cues to show the world (or myself) that I have been working.
I’m even paid electronically, so I don’t even have the satisfaction of walking to my bank check in hand. Although even that would prove problematic as I live in Oregon and my bank is in Texas– it would be a very long walk for me to make that deposit.
It occurs to me that I need to find a way to measure my daily and weekly goals. Any suggestions?
